Meet Our Doctors
John D. Bissell, OD – Owner of Bissell Eye Care
Dr. John Bissell is a low vision specialist with experience helping patients adapt to permanent vision loss. A native of Natrona Heights, he earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and completed his Doctor of Optometry at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 2004.
He completed residency training in primary care and ocular disease, where he worked alongside ophthalmologists in specialties including glaucoma, retina-vitreous, neuro-ophthalmology, and low vision. This collaborative training deepened his expertise in diagnosing and managing complex visual conditions.
Dr. Bissell is one of a select group of optometrists in the United States to receive advanced clinical training from the International Academy of Low Vision Specialists (IALVS). He specializes in evaluating functional vision loss and fitting custom telescopic and magnifying systems for patients with conditions such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, Stargardt disease, and retinitis pigmentosa.
His approach is grounded in helping patients maintain independence, comfort, and quality of life, even when standard glasses or surgery are no longer effective. Every evaluation is tailored to the individual, with a focus on real-world goals and practical outcomes.
Outside of his clinical work, Dr. Bissell enjoys scuba diving and traveling with his wife, Brooke, and their two daughters, Amelia and Victoria. He is also a certified national-level swimming official.
Sheri Sturm, OD – Optometrist at Bissell Eye Care
Dr. Sturm earned her undergraduate degree from Slippery Rock University and her Doctorate of Optometry degree from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale Florida, where she graduated with clinical honors. During her time there she also completed a second bachelor’s degree in Vision Science.
Active in the professional community, Dr. Sturm holds memberships with the American Optometric Association, Pennsylvania Optometric Association and the Western PA Optometric Society.
Practicing a healthy lifestyle, Dr. Sturm enjoys traveling, running, yoga, gardening and being active outdoors. She lives in Cranberry with her husband and son. Dr. Sturm enjoys being part of the Bissell Eye Care Team and serving the community.
Nicole Long-Fratangelo, OD – Optometrist at Bissell Eye Care
Dr. Long-Fratangelo grew up in Lower Burrell and earned her undergraduate degree from Saint Vincent College in Latrobe. She went on to the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia where she graduated with clinical honors. While in optometry school Dr. Long-Fratangelo did several rotations specializing in pediatric vision care.
Since graduation Dr. Long-Fratangelo has practiced in a family practice setting in Pittsburgh treating patients of all ages. From children to adults she provides routine care to patients with amblyopia (lazy eye), glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetes and other eye diseases.
Dr. Long-Fratangelo spends her free time enjoying the outdoors with her husband Antonio and sons Enzio and Alessio and daughter Milana. Hobbies include: distance running, tennis, cooking and traveling. She enjoys being a part of the Bissell Eye Care Team and serving the community.
Marissa L. Corathers, OD – Optometrist at Bissell Eye Care
Dr. Marissa Corathers earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from West Virginia University. She graduated cum laude from the Ohio State University College of Optometry, where she earned her Doctorate of Optometry degree. While in school she completed multiple externships specializing in primary care, ocular disease and contact lenses. She is therapeutically licensed and skilled in providing comprehensive eye care, along with the management of ocular conditions and diseases.
Dr. Corathers has been living and practicing in Pittsburgh for over 10 years and is passionate about helping other people. She provides high-quality eye care to every patient and enjoys getting to know them on a personal level.
When she isn’t working, she spends her free time with her two children and golden retriever. She also enjoys traveling, working out, running and is an avid sports fan, especially of WVU.
Meet Our Staff - Bakerstown Office
Terri: Practice Manager. She has been with us since day one! After years of working directly in optical care, she now brings that amazing wisdom behind the scenes as the true heartbeat of our practice. She steps in wherever we need her most. You will usually find her working from her home office in Bakerstown, but you might just catch her in person at our Natrona Heights office.
Kristi: Billing Specialist/Front Desk. She has helped us grow since nearly day one! She lights up the front desk with a bright smile and an energetic greeting, making sure every visitor leaves smiling. She expertly manages the complete medical billing lifecycle—from initial claim submission and error scrubbing to navigating guidelines and resolving patient insurance inquiries. You may get the pleasure of seeing her at either office.
Sydney: Front Desk. She has been a trusted and steady presence on our team for more than five years. Her versatility enables her to step into any office role with ease. Her bright personality shines at the front desk, where she welcomes every visitor with warmth and care. She looks forward to greeting you when you visit our Bakerstown office.
Parker: Technician. He has been a nice addition to our team for four years. He will start your exam for the doctor, run any needed tests, and help you feel completely relaxed. You may also find him checking you in with a warm welcome, and can assist you with any glasses adjustments you may need. You can find his eagerness to help at our Bakerstown office.
Madison: Optician, Front Desk. For the past two years, she has been a vital part of our Bakerstown office. Her kind heart shines as she helps you pick the perfect frame in optical, and is always happy to assist you with any of your optical needs. You may also spot her welcoming our guests with a bright smile at the front desk.
Meet Our Staff - Natrona Heights Office
Laurie: Optician. She has been with us for nearly 13 years and has worked in the optical field for close to 20! Her vast experience and friendly personality make it easy for her to find your perfect frame, along with any repairs or adjustments you may need. Her deep knowledge of lens technology ensures patients receive customized vision solutions tailored to their exact daily needs. You can look forward to seeing her at our Natrona Heights office.
Ashley: Front Desk. She has been a valued part of our team for nearly six years. Her versatility allows her to master every role in the office! You will most often find her greeting patients at the front desk with her signature energy, or sharing honest style advice while you pick out new frames in the optical department. She is always happy to greet you at our Natrona Heights office.
Liz: Technician, Optical. She has been a reliable member of our Natrona Heights team for four years. She welcomes you with a friendly hello, begins your exam for the doctor, and handles your tests, all while keeping you relaxed. She may also check you in with a smile or assist you with your new glasses pickup or any adjustments you may need.
Caitlin: Optician, Front Desk, Technician. She has been here for three years and brings great versatility to our team. You might find her greeting you at the front desk, starting your exam for the doctor, or helping you choose the perfect frame in our optical department. While her home office is Natrona Heights, she will occasionally cover the Bakerstown office.
Jody: Optician. With nearly two years of experience on our team, she brings a warm and welcoming presence. She is always happy to help you select the ideal frame or she may be the friendly face who greets you at the front desk. You will most likely see her at our Natrona Heights office.
Jacqui: Optician, Technician. She joined our team a little over a year ago.
