Our History
Bissell Eye Care was established in 2009 by Dr. John D. Bissell after purchasing practice from Dr. Joseph Panza in April 2010. Dr. Bissell continues to build a multi-disciplined practice including the treatment of glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetes, retinitis pigmentosa, albinism, and strabismus (“lazy eye”) as well as provide contact lenses, designer eyeglasses and low vision therapy.
As a member of the International Academy of Low Vision Specialists, Dr. Bissell has received advanced training on the use of prescription telescopic eyeglasses for treating patients with advanced stage macular degeneration as well as other low vision disorders. Dr. Bissell is a member of the American Optometric Association, Pennsylvania Optometric Association, and Western Pennsylvania Optometric Society. He has begun working with an organization that that supplies optometric care to nursing homes all over western Pennsylvania and Ohio.
