 John D. Bissell, OD – Owner of Bissell Eye Care

John D. Bissell, OD

Dr. John Bissell is a low vision specialist with experience helping patients adapt to permanent vision loss. A native of Natrona Heights, he earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and completed his Doctor of Optometry at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 2004.

He completed residency training in primary care and ocular disease, where he worked alongside ophthalmologists in specialties including glaucoma, retina-vitreous, neuro-ophthalmology, and low vision. This collaborative training deepened his expertise in diagnosing and managing complex visual conditions.

Dr. Bissell is one of a select group of optometrists in the United States to receive advanced clinical training from the International Academy of Low Vision Specialists (IALVS). He specializes in evaluating functional vision loss and fitting custom telescopic and magnifying systems for patients with conditions such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, Stargardt disease, and retinitis pigmentosa.

His approach is grounded in helping patients maintain independence, comfort, and quality of life, even when standard glasses or surgery are no longer effective. Every evaluation is tailored to the individual, with a focus on real-world goals and practical outcomes.

Outside of his clinical work, Dr. Bissell enjoys scuba diving and traveling with his wife, Brooke, and their two daughters, Amelia and Victoria. He is also a certified national-level swimming official.


Sheri Sturm, OD – Optometrist at Bissell Eye Care

Sheri Sturm, OD

Dr. Sturm earned her undergraduate degree from Slippery Rock University and her Doctorate of Optometry degree from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale Florida, where she graduated with clinical honors. During her time there she also completed a second bachelor’s degree in Vision Science.

Active in the professional community, Dr. Sturm holds memberships with the American Optometric Association, Pennsylvania Optometric Association and the Western PA Optometric Society.

Practicing a healthy lifestyle, Dr. Sturm enjoys traveling, running, yoga, gardening and being active outdoors. She lives in Cranberry with her husband and son. Dr. Sturm enjoys being part of the Bissell Eye Care Team and serving the community.


Nicole Long-Fratangelo, OD – Optometrist at Bissell Eye Care

Nicole Long-Fratangelo, OD

Dr. Long-Fratangelo grew up in Lower Burrell and earned her undergraduate degree from Saint Vincent College in Latrobe. She went on to the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia where she graduated with clinical honors. While in optometry school Dr. Long-Fratangelo did several rotations specializing in pediatric vision care.

Since graduation Dr. Long-Fratangelo has practiced in a family practice setting in Pittsburgh treating patients of all ages. From children to adults she provides routine care to patients with amblyopia (lazy eye), glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetes and other eye diseases.

Dr. Long-Fratangelo spends her free time enjoying the outdoors with her husband Antonio and sons Enzio and Alessio and daughter Milana. Hobbies include: distance running, tennis, cooking and traveling. She enjoys being a part of the Bissell Eye Care Team and serving the community.


Marissa L. Corathers, OD – Optometrist at Bissell Eye Care

marissa corathersDr. Marissa Corathers earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from West Virginia University. She graduated cum laude from the Ohio State University College of Optometry, where she earned her Doctorate of Optometry degree. While in school she completed multiple externships specializing in primary care, ocular disease and contact lenses. She is therapeutically licensed and skilled in providing comprehensive eye care, along with the management of ocular conditions and diseases.

Dr. Corathers has been living and practicing in Pittsburgh for over 10 years and is passionate about helping other people. She provides high-quality eye care to every patient and enjoys getting to know them on a personal level.

When she isn’t working, she spends her free time with her two children and golden retriever. She also enjoys traveling, working out, running and is an avid sports fan, especially of WVU.
